They are less expensive than the V8 and could be a great fun daily driver.
It would be used unless there is a sweet a plan deal but more than likely used. I’d want a manual one probably in blue or white. A premium would be cool to get the toggle switches and dual zone climate control and cooled seats. Definitely a coupe as I’m not a fan of convertibles.
The GT would be ideal but we’ll have to see how the depreciation goes on these. I think the Ecobbost would be a better step for me in the performance car world. I’ve had a 2001 Expedition, an 05 Crown Vic, an 05 Corolla and a 2011 Camry (c urrent car). I think jumping from what I’ve been driving into an ecobbost would make it really fun. I think the 5.0 might be too big a jump plus it’ll be more expensive to insure and drive. I think I’ll be able to push the Ecoboost more than the 5.0 too because it is less powerful.
What does Oppo think?

I think it's a great idea. But, hile I've been where you are, I've come to the conclusion that I might as well save some more for a V8.

Thanks! It’s tricky since I’m not planning on buying anything until after I graduate so it’ll be a while longer and I won’t know what I’ll be making yet. Right now where I live, used the 5.0s are about $10,000 more than the 2.3s. Which is a huge price difference.

Too loud for me. I like V8 noises but not when they are too loud.
![]() 03/11/2019 at 06:16 |

That’s a Borla ATAK, basically the loudest exhaust you’ll find on a car. This stock exhaust is not very loud, but it does sound quote nice
It’s very easy to justify the Ecoboost. It’s a good engine, cheap to buy and fuel, good power, lighter. But nobody regrets buying the GT.

The WRX is 265 hp in a 3,200 lb car. The Ecoboost Mustang is 310 hp in a 3,500 lb car.
There are lots of other differences, but keep in mind that nobody would give you a load of crap for owning a WRX except the STI bros.
The ecoboost mustang should be a lot of fun for a daily driver. I haven’t driven one, but I had a great time in my rental-spec challenger which has the same hp and is a bit porker than the mustang. If you really want to find out, go rent a mustang for the weekend.

gotta get the V8

Lots of these near me under 50k miles at ~$15,000 or less . Premium package is usually $1k more.
Very tempting.
GT’s average $9-10k more, though usually w/lower mileage. ( Based on used listings, EcoBoost drivers put twice as much mileage on their cars than V8s, I’ll guess more DDs )

Yeah I hear you on the V8, we’ll see what happens.

If you get an Ecoboost, you can always do an LS swap later LOL
Ok, you’re not gonna do that.
I’ve driven the Ecoboost and it’s a lot of fun. Just make sure you really love the Ecoboost enough to not think about what you might have done.
Because y ou may not get a V8 car for a good while since you just bought this car.

I’d love a WRX but would be constantly worried about head gaskets and other quality issues I heard about from people I know who own Subaru’s.
I think it would bother me to have people rip on my car but people have also ripped on my other cars so it wouldn’t be entirely new.
I got to drive my step mothers ecoboost convertible a few times when she had that lease. I liked it a lot just not the convertible part. It was an auto which I felt was fine. I’d be learning stick again with mine. I’ve only driven a stick shift twice so it would require some reducation. I could rent one for fun though.

The $15,000 or less is what’s got me interested. That’s the price range I’d probably be looking at in a couple years. Your probably right about the 2.3s being driven more than the 5.0s

Head gaskets were mostly
an issue on the non-turbo motors and only in a certain year window (can’t remember what the range was). Ringlands tho...

I hear you, I think what I’ll need to do is test drive an Ecoboost and the GT and see how I feel after.

Yeah :)
If you really fall in love with the V8, see what part of owning the V8 is expensive? Just the up front cost? The gas mileage? How much you drive?
That way, you can see if you just need to not drive it daily, or sell one of the cars from the garage or sell your plasma like the rest of us in Canada, paying $4 to $5 for a gallon of gas .

I vote to Coyote swap the Panther.

The worst quality issue you'll have to worry about on the Mustang would be if the paint on the hood, trunk, and fenders decided to start blistering off. Just know that going in and be ready to spend on paint work, if it happens outside the balance of the comprehensive warranty.

I love the EB Mustangs. They are really a good DD sports car. The GT is a better muscle car, but the EB is the better sports car (balanced, etc.). The only reason to get the GT (IMO) is if you want the sound. 310 HP is plenty for the road, especially as a fun DD. Plus the 28 MPG compared to 15-18 makes a big difference.
I like them both, for different reasons. But if the car is 99% your daily, I would stick with the EB and performance pack.

At least I don’t pay that much in fuel in Michigan. I’ll just have to see how it goes. I’m hoping for a shorter commute after graduation. An hour each way is getting pretty old. That would help with gas and wear costs as well.

No burn the panthers to the ground. I hated that car so much.

I also heard the ac condensers are weak on these.
![]() 03/11/2019 at 19:34 |

That’s my thinking about it. I’m not really cross shopping with other muscle cars but hot hatches and this has RWD so I think it would be a better sports car.

Damn, that and automatic transmissions are like the two things American car companies are supposed to know how to do right.

I remembered I asked a similar question a back in 2017 haha. One is still on my list when I get a new DD

Nice! I’m also unsure about the transmission but in reverse. I’ve always had an auto and am thinking I might want to buy a manual next but am worried about traffic and possibly not liking the car because of the extra work or shifting.
![]() 03/12/2019 at 12:48 |
|
Shifting to me isn’t work, but I’ve only had manual cars so it’s second nature. If you have only owned autos, and like/don’t mind them, I would probably stick with one. They are so much easier to find (and normally cheaper) on the used/CPO market. Most the boostangs with the performance pack that I see are even auto. But, if you want a manual, they are still out there. Just slightly less inventory.

I learned stick on a 94 Wrangler YJ and thought it was fun but I only drive it for like an hour. I just worry about spending a lot on a car and then not liking shifting . I think it could easily become second nature though. I’m pretty mechanically inclined.

Buy used, unless you have very specific option requirements,
as they are victims of depreciation. If you want the fantastic
10-spd
auto
, get a previous
rental; they will usually have no more than 25,000mi, have been maintained, and unlikely to have seen enthusiast
trashing, just the usual normal-person negligence
. I have been in several rentals that have never had their launch control enabled,
and they are CHEAP! If you want a manual, I wouldn’t blame you, the MT82 is better than people give it credit for, especially in the 2018+ models.
Let me know when you buy, if you are interested
in tuning or need consultation on a mod-path.

Thanks! Yeah I’m only looking used on those. I could see the auto or the manual depending on my future commute. I’d appreciate input on tunes if I get one.
